GRAIN PREP
GRAIN PREP is a yeast culture that is composed of yeast, minerals,
corn, oats, barley and wheat bran, molasses and other ingredients. The cereal grains
are the culture media.
GRAIN PREP MODE OF ACTION
Grain spoilage from high moisture and heat is created from bacterial action.
The heat stimulates the activity of many of the microorganisms including some bacteria,
which are coincidental to the heat. This combination destroys many of the useful
nutrients and causes the mold and fermentation of the grains.
Grains harvested with an internal high moisture, such as wheat or rice, has its
sugars changed to organic acids, such as lactic and acetic acids, in amounts which
would assist in the preservation of the grain ... EXCEPT ... that, the increase
of harmful bacteria which are not checked by the acidity in the grain or by lack
of oxygen, results in their destroying the acids and thus causing the grain spoilage.
When the grain in the grain bin is kept in an anaerobic state, (no fans), Grain
Prep increases the Lactic acid content in the storage bin and helps reduce the temperature.
We have used GRAIN PREP SUCCESSFULLY on corn oats, barley, wheat,
rice and Milo.
TYPE OF GRAIN BIN
The yeast culture uses an anaerobic action to help reduce heat and mold
in the grain. We obtain the best results for storing and treating the grain by using
a round solid wall structure with a slanted or sloping roof. This provides for "natural
aspiration” of the grain.

When storing grain that has moisture in excess of 14%, roof vents and a roof cap
is needed to allow the excess moisture to escape. If an escape is not provided for
the moisture, the top 15 to 30 centimeters of the grain will collect the moisture
and mold. As the moisture condensates on the under side of the roof, it falls in
droplets back on the grain. Once the top has started to mold, the grain seals itself
at the top layer, the grain looses its natural aspiration and the rest of the grain
in the bin will begin to spoil.
Once the bin has been filled, the cone created by the grain falling into the bin
should be "leveled" either by hand or by unloading enough grain at the bottom of
the bin to eliminate the cone shape of the grain at the top.
PRODUCT APPLICATION
Apply Grain Prep through the Auger or through a meter type applicator such
as a Gandy box
When using a Gandy box to apply the GRAIN PREP, a free flowing
carrier will have to be used instead of wheat bran to eliminate the "bridging" that
sometimes occurs inside the Gandy box when a light weight material is used.
To save freight costs, we ship you the premix, you mix the premix with wheat bran
or some other suitable material for a carrier.
